Learning from Outdoor Webcams: Surveillance of Physical Activity Across Environments

  • There are 10s of thousands of public, outdoor, online streaming webcams.
  • These can be repurposed for evaluating public space and physical activity.
  • With so many cameras and images, we used crowdsources to count/annotate people, bikes, and cars in images. We found crowdsources to be reliable and valid.
  • These are scalable methods for built environment, walkability, and physical activity measurement.
