Technical Service
The following are technical services that can be provided by Dr. Venditti through NCSU:
- Paper, fibers and pulp properties including chemical, surface, mechanical, optical, and structural characterization.
- Polymer extrusion at the 20 gram level with a twin screw extruder. Fiber spinning.
- Contaminant quantification. This can be done for inks and toners in paper using scanner based image analysis system, optical microscope based image analysis system, an effective residual ink content (ERIC) system. Both macro and micro stickies can be detected in a number of ways. These include screening, solvent extraction, deposition on film, bottle, wire, dyeing/image analysis, and others.
- Deposition behavior of contaminants. The deposition behavior of contaminants can be measured using a counter-rotating paper machine wire device. After the deposition experiment, the contaminants can be detected either via image analysis or gravimetric analysis.
- Lab scale paper recycling operations. These include pulping, screening, cleaning, washing, flotation, kneading, dispersion, and bleaching.
- Pilot plant paper recycling operations. These include These include pulping, screening, cleaning, washing, flotation, kneading, dispersion, and bleaching. A pilot plant papermachine is also available.
- Paper recyclability determinations. Is your paper product recyclable with respect to current technology in paper recycling?
- Life cycle analysis and complex chemical process simulations.
- Carbonization experiments.
- Aquatic biodegradability experiments for paper, textiles, plastics, etc…….
- Laundering microparticle generation.
- Preparation of cellulose nanofibrils
- Scanning electron microscopy with EDS
