I teach an undergraduate course, FOR 411: Forest Tree Genetics, which was created by the late Dr. Bruce Zobel in 1960s, and taught by Dr. Steve McKeand in 2000-2023. The course focuses on the drivers of genetic variation in natural populations, sources of evolution, and the partitioning of variance for breeding trees to improve forest productivity. It is cross listed with GN 411 and is offered for graduate students as FOR 511 (formerly called FOR 725). The course has a distance education section.

I also teach a graduate course, FOR 727: Tree Breeding Techniques. This course focuses on the hands-on methods of grafting, controlled-pollination, pollen and seed collection and storage, with emphasis on reproductive biology in pines. The course includes a field trip to an operational tree breeding facility over spring break. This course was created by Dr. J.B. Jett and co-taught with Dr. Steve McKeand from 1990-2023.
