Linda Posada, undergraduate student enrolled in the Environmental Sciences program of the College of Natural Resources, did a 3-month internship in Lavoine Research Group to learn more about plastics and biodegradation.
With the support of all the group members, she investigated the biodegradation of commercial single-use beverage cups in freshwater environment and unveiled the non-biodegradable character of polylactic acid (PLA); a bioplastic made from plant starch such as corn.
